The incident took place around 10:20 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 5, in Bridgeport at Arthur’s Famous Pizza Restaurant on Park Avenue, said Terron Jones, spokesman for the Bridgeport Police.
But when the man spotted the officer picking up dinner, he fled the scene, said Capt. Brian Fitzgerald.
“The officer pursued him, but the male was able to escape in a waiting vehicle," Fitzgerald said.
While still at the restaurant, officers were alerted by patrons of another masked man outside.
Officers briefly detained the man but determined he was not connected to the earlier incident and was released, police said.
"We cannot confirm the armed individual’s intention, but it appears likely that he was going to commit a robbery," Fitzgerald said.
The incident is under investigation.
